Solomon Islands Trip: Honiara June 2011

I went for a week only. It was a hectic job related visit so did not get to tour the place so well.
However its a nice place. busy and developing. the people are great. fish is great.

Taxi costs $10 a km (Solomon Dollar). Taxi's are plentiful in the capital Honiara. a decent meal depends on the definition. Plenty Chinese restaurants...serves rabge from SBD$45 to SBD$200. I enjoyed the roadside BBQ especially since it had a whole (1 foot) fish in the serve (see image).
The CBD is made up of the port, veg market, fish market, hadicraft market, small shops, an impressive mall (Hyundai Mall) , banks (ANZ, Westpac, BSP) etc....

I stayed at the "Pacific Casino Hotel". Its a nice place on the seawall- gives a direct view of the port in some distance and passing barges. I stayed in a standard non smokers room that cost me SBD$500. The hotel has a great restaurant for breakfast, lunch n dinner. There is a bar- Captains bar and as the name suggests a casino as well - though i did not have a chance to go there.

I met a lot of friendly people. I even got to meet an ill treated croc who was locked in a cage with ankle deep water. good thing it was in the shade...

POST NOT COMPLETE....will add some more stuff soon...
